The remarkable and frightening clock of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge depicts a chronophage, a devourer of time. He’ll get us all eventually, but not yet if my wife and I have any say in the matter. We have so much living to do.

Stressors

There are many stressors in my life – most of them directly or indirectly the result of government action but some of them an inevitable consequence of the work I choose to do.

Yet I experience little or no stress. I choose not to.

I’m Getting Younger

I really am. My bankruptcy four years ago gave me a real beating. The death of my wife, Meg, three years ago desperately knocked the stuffing out of me. I felt washed out, drained, spiritually dead.

Now I’m earning my living again and my wife, Pat, brings me deep happiness.

The physical consequences of economic destruction and personal tragedy were devastating. I was a wreck. The physical consequences of my financial and spiritual re-birth have been equally remarkable. I’m in good nick.

I’m sure that my expectation of life, give or take the influence of the hand of Fate, is increasing rapidly. Now it’s up to me to treasure each minute and use it creatively.

The Twilight of the Gods

In the final opera in Wagner’s Ring Cycle, the Gods get their just deserts and lose their malign influence over mankind. Observing current religious influences over prejudice, bigotry, war and terrorism, I am inclined to wish the same fate for today’s clerics and their spiritual beliefs.

The Dog
